Masonry Support Systems
Masonry supports are crucial in ensuring the stability, safety, and longevity of a masonry structure and allow for differential movement in the building especially on structures over 4 storeys.
Welded masonry support is typically used in cavities over 45mm in size, the support systems comprise of a folded shelf angle that is then welded to laser cut brackets. These welded systems are then fixed to the building’s structure, providing support for the masonry, particularly in cavity wall construction. They help transfer the load of the masonry to the building’s frame. Manufactured in grade 304/316 stainless steel.
The SMS range comes in three variation as standard, designing the most efficient and cost effective solution for your project. With our dedication to design and manufacture, any specials or project specific requirements can easily be attained.
Stainless Masonry Support (SMS S)
Designed with the angle in the standard orientation and can be designed to connect to concrete, cast in channel or steel structures.
Stainless Masonry Support Reversed (SMS RE)
Where the project dictates it, and the level of the brickwork requiring support is such, our SMS Reverse angle (SMS_RE) system can be designed to suit.
Stainless Masonry Support Inverted (SMS IN)
Used in situations where the masonry support needs to be upside down, for example where the support level is same as the top of the structure.
Code Referencing
All systems are complete with welded angle and welded serrated pads. Our calculation suite ensures that we will design and detail the most cost effective and transparent solution.
Each system is referenced with an easy to follow code Referencing: e.g. SMS_S/150/8.4/St4/CS/P148/NH25/ND15/m150/d25

Fixings & Technical Data
Stainless UK only work with the best manufacturers of fixings and stock a wide range of bolts and fixings to suit your project requirements and to ensure the correct design of our masonry support systems. The fixings we supply are used for areas with a cavity size of at least 50mm, and where the angle is below the fixing points.

A torque wrench is crucial for ensuring correct fastener tightness, preventing failure, maintaining function, achieving even clamping force, providing consistent performance. Please use the table above for the required torque required.
Grip-Bolt has been independtly analysed to ensure our product meets strength and stability.
The durability and reliability of fasteners are crucial for ensuring the stability and integrity of structures.
Two critical parameters that determine the performance of fasteners are shear strength and tensile strength.

Grip-Bolt Installation
Rawl Plug Fixings
- Rawl expansion anchors, specifically designed for bolting into concrete structures where close edges aren’t an issue and there is the potential for cracked concrete.
- Rawl resin anchors suitable for a range of fixing scenarios including un-cracked concrete and masonry.
- Setscrews for use when fixing masonry support systems back to steel frames. Set screws can be supplied in A2 or A4, shrink wrapped, or with nylon washer to avoid bi-metallic corrosion.
- The Stainless Grip-Bolt peg anchor is supplied in 316 or Zinc finish. The Grip-bolt is your solution when bolting to RHS / SHS hollow section steel beams.
- Channel fixings including cast-in channel and T’ Head bolts offer a time efficient installation solution where we have time to get channel cast on a project. This solution can offer smaller fixing centres than an expansion anchor and in some cases closer edge distances too.
Top Cleat
Top Cleats designed specific to each project and supplied in grade 304/316 stainless steel. Top Cleats are used in various scenarios such as when the structure doesn’t exist / isn’t tall enough to accommodate a bracket, or where the lever arm on a bracket needs to be extended due to loadings on the fixings (for example in a corner).

Keyhole Plate Variations
1. Shims can be supplied in thicknesses of 2, 3, 4 and 5mm. Providing a max of 12mm spacing over 3 shimms. Standard height of 185mm long or any other lengths to suit your project. Horseshoe shims can be used to provide adjustment / tolerance in situations where the structure doesn’t match design. For example if the concrete slab has been cast incorrectly.
2. Fire Rated thermal Pads Independently fire tested and verified to the following industry standards:
A2,s1,d0 Fire-rated classification to EN 13501-1.
Maintains very high structural performance and compressive strength to 500°C under EN ISO 604.
Compliant for use under Document B Building Regulations for buildings above 18m.
3. Thermal Break Pads effectively eliminate thermal bridging by providing a non-conductive barrier between interior and exterior surfaces. This prevents heat loss and condensation formation, ensuring a more comfortable and energy-efficient indoor environment
Closer Plate
The closer plate is an optional extra allowing a flush finish to the under side of the masonry support system. The closer plate is welded to the underside of the angle. Please specify if you want the extra closing plate detail with your system or you require a particular finish to the closer plate.
Grip Plate
The SUK Grip-Plate is designed to provide support to the initial courses of brickwork at the window reveals, upto 215mm (a full brick) deep.
This additional component is positioned nicely within the bedjoint and uses our expertly lasered slots to key into the mortar bed.
This provides a bond between the outer leaf and the reveal. To ensure the integrity, it is important to build the outer leaf a minimum of one course on top of the Grip-Plate before installing the brick reveal.
Hanging Soffit
Buildings and elevations are becoming more unique with every project, at Stainless UK we are committed to providing the best solutions in particular to hanging brickwork soffits.
Solutions range from channel and dowel ties, to formed stirrup ties and also trays.
Weep Vent
Stainless steel weep vent used with stainless masonry support systems to prevent bimetallic corrison. Often used with lintels and / or masonry support systems at 450mm horizontal centres
The vent is made from 304 Stainless Steel and come in standard 65mm high 102mm wide with a 10mm weep hole
