Stainless Steel High Tensile Bar
Stainless UK stock, cold drawn stainless steel round bar for the manufacturer of fasteners for the oil and gas industry.
Stainless also stock high tensile stainless strength grade 500 and 650 dowel bar for the use in construction joints for reinforcing the connection between two or more concrete slabs to improve and force transfer.
High Tensile bar products include cold drawn bar in B8 Class 1 & 2, B8M Class 1 & 2, A4 - 70/80/100 and A2 - 70/80/100 for fixing manufacture and stainless strength grade 250 / 500 / 650 for the use in construction joints.
Stainless steel high tensile bar can be supplied in up 63mm diameter.
Stock lengths are up to 6m and bars can be supplied cut, to any length.
Bars can be supplied fully threaded or end threaded with ISO metric threads to BS3643.
A full range of accessory products are avaliable including nuts, connectors and washers.
High Tensile Bars and Cold Drawing
High tensile bars are produced by drawing standard round bar through a hard alloy die at room temperature.
The process:
- Increases length
- Increases the strength by 50% to 90%
- Increases hardness
- Reduces diameter
- Reduces plasticity
Cold drawn stainless steel often has good surface quality as the process requires the bar to be pickled to remove dust particles. Also a metal soapy film from the phosphating and saponification treatment reduces friction between the die and bar when being drawn which leaves a bright smooth surface.

ASTM A193/A193M-11 specifies the mechanical properties of bolts, screws and nuts made from austenitic stainless steel for high temperature or high pressure service and other special purpose applications. High tensile stainless steel is a strong and durable metal alloy composed of Carbon (C), Manganese (Mn), Phosphorus (P), Sulfur (S), Silicon (Si), Chromium (Cr), Nickel (Ni), Molybdenum (Mo), Nitrogen (N), Iron (Fe). This combination gives the steel remarkable tensile strength at temperatures ranging from below zero to almost 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. |
