Stainless UK Injection Anchors Chosen for Indonesian Project
With their ability to resist corrosion, Injection Anchors manufactured by Stainless UK have been supplied for a major soil stabilisation project in Indonesia.
Freeport Mining Indonesia discovered that the reinforcement in an existing reinforced soil block was heavily corroded. The soil block had been recently installed and the galvanised reinforcement was corroding rapidly due to the aggressive soil conditions, high temperatures and acidity.
In the search for a solution to the problem double corrosion protected and fibreglass soil nails were considered but not seen as appropriate due to access, speed and potential damage during installation.
Grade 316 stainless steel self drilling soil nails were the practical solution because of their corrosion resistance and ease of installation. Unlike conventional anchors which require 4 separate operations to install hollow injection anchors can be installed in one operation with drilling and grouting taking place at the same time.
Stainless UK supplied the injection anchors with a R32 rope thread which is compatible with all types of standard drilling equipment. In addition to the injection anchors, Stainless UK also supplied full strength couplers, load nuts and end plates for use on the project.
