Stainless UK supply 1,000 plus stainless steel dowels for Tees weir project
Stainless UK have supplied over 1000 stainless steel ribbed bar dowels to contractor VolkerStevin for use in a weir rebuilding project on the River Tees at Barnard Castle in County Durham.
Barnard Castle is a historic market town dating back to Norman times. Dominated by its 12th century castle, the town is situated on the north bank of the River Tees. The Tees is one of the country’s fastest flowing rivers and a 60m wide weir at Barnard Castle is being rebuilt to provide flood warnings downstream and to monitor river levels for abstraction licences upstream.
Stainless UK has supplied 12mm diameter stainless steel ribbed bars cut to lengths which were set into the concrete at every joint to form a dowel that ties the individual concrete slabs together. Grade 304 stainless steel was selected to prevent any future corrosion at the joints and so ensure the long term stability of the weir.
